Funding assistance from the Scottish Government to help households switch to renewable low carbon heating.

Heating

Homeowners in Scotland can get help from the Scottish Government to benefit from renewable heating technologies at home. You can apply for grant and loan funding when installing a domestic renewable heating system like an air source heat pump or biomass boiler.

You can apply for Grant funding of up to £7,500 (£9,000 if you reside in a rural off-gas grid area) towards a new renewable heating system.

You can also apply for an interest-free loan of up to £7,500. Finally, a £7,500 interest-free loan is available for replacement heat pumps.

Solar PV & Battery Storage

From Tuesday 27th June 2023, Home Energy Scotland announced that funding for Solar PV and energy storage systems will only be available as part of a package together with a heat pump or a biomass boiler installation. If you already have a heat pump or biomass boiler installed and have a valid MCS certificate for the installation then you are still eligible to make an application for funding solar PV and energy storage.

If installing solar PV, battery storage combined with a new air source heat pump install (this is classed as a package of measures) then each of the £6,000 interest-free loans would qualify for £1,250 in Grant funding (essentially a £1,250 Grant with the remaining £4,750 as an interest-free loan).

Who can apply?

Any owner-occupier whose home is in Scotland can apply for funding. If you are building your own home, you can also apply for funding to install equipment while your home is under construction.

Funding is granted on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability. Both your chosen system and preferred installer must be MCS certified.

How do I apply?

Contact Home Energy Scotland on 0808 808 2282 and request a Home Energy Scotland Loan Application Form as well as a Home Energy Selector Report recommending the type of boiler you want to install (i.e. a biomass boiler or air source heat pump). You can’t get approval for funding for work that’s already begun so make sure you don’t start work until you’ve received a written offer of a loan.
